Liu Zige of China took the gold in the women's 200 meter Butterfly final setting a new world record in the process. Liu touched in 2:04.18, beating the previous world mark of 2:05.40 set by Australian Jessicah Schipper in 2006.

It is China's first swimming gold at these games.
The other Chinese simmer Jiao Liuyang touched just after her in 2:04.72, also under the old world record. Jessicah Schipper of Australia, the former world-record holder, finished third in 2:06.26.
