Rottweiler dogs kill Thai baby girl

Two Rottweiler (Rottweil Metzgerhund) dogs, owned by a Dutch man named Johannas Bernadas based in Nakhon Ratchasima, mauled his 20 month old daughter to death early yesterday, police said.

The toddler named Romklao Plu (Thai: ร่มเกล้า พลู), nicknamed Nina, was attacked and killed in an unprovoked attack inside her house compound in Muang district at 1 am. Her 42 year old mother, Jintana Plu, was also severely injured in her desperate efforts to save the child, as the dogs had savaged her legs.

Jintana told police she had just taken her daughter, Nina, home from a birthday party when two of the family's three Rottweilers suddenly attacked the child, biting into her skull. Jintana said the dogs started attacking the child as soon as she had put her down and turned to lock the gate.

The two canines had been brought into the house to replace two other Rottweilers that had fought and killed each other, said Somsong Phanwiset, Jinata's mother.

The husband who is an engineer, is on his way to Thailand.

The woman said her husband had raised the animals as guard dogs after burglars had broken into her home several times. She said the dogs were untrained and were in the habit of fighting with other dogs.

That's very sad, she was so young and cute.

May her soul rest in peace.
